aradise Farms Corp. and Case Chambers’ Summer in Adriane rallied from last to prevail by a nose in a four-horse photo at the finish to win the $120,000 Ballyrankin Purse for 4-year-olds and up Wednesday afternoon. (Click here for a video of the race.)
Ridden by Juan Hernandez and trained by Mike Maker, Summer in Adriane covered the mile on a turf course rated as good in 1:39.06. The victory is the first for Hernandez at Keeneland.
Summer in Adriane, sent off as the second-longest price in the field of 12 at 46-1, returned $95.56, $46.16 and $22.66. Navy Seal (IRE) finished second under Joel Rosario and paid $14.42 and $9.16 with Rotterdam and Ben Curtis another head back in third and returning $5.42 to show. Rotterdam finished a nose in front of Domingo.
A 4-year-old gelded Kentucky-bred son of Summer Front out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Robi Jo, Summer in Adriane picked up his third victory from 15 starts. He now has earned $174,105.
