Flavien Prat (winning rider of Carl Spackler-IRE)
“(When I asked him to go at the top of the stretch), he went a little quicker than I was expecting, to be honest. I was traveling well, and I thought the leader kind of had an easy lead. So I tipped him out just to make sure I could get myself going, and that’s when he really jumped on the bridle. Turning for home, I thought maybe I moved too soon, but he was just that good.”
Bob Edwards (whose e Five Racing Thoroughbreds owns the winner and received a Keeneland Tray for an eighth graded stakes victory here)
“(The run of Grade 1 wins at Keeneland) has been unbelievable. (Trainer) Chad (Brown) and his crew have done a great job conditioning him and getting him ready. He’s a homebred, which is spectacular for us, and obviously a family favorite. And having (jockey) Flavien (Prat) catch the mount because (regular rider) Tyler (Gaffalione) is out (recovering from a broken ankle), it makes it all worthwhile.”
On having eight graded stakes wins at Keeneland, thanks to Rushing Fall (five), Carl Spackler (two) and Good Magic (the 2018 Toyota Blue Grass-G1 winner owned in partnership with Stonestreet Stables)
“It’s really cool to be in that list.”
Frankie Dettori (rider of runner-up Integration)
“I had a good trip. I love riding the horse. He does not know how to run a bad race. I feel that he can go off of the gears better on fast ground. He has been way too good to us; it was a great second. A mile is on the short side for him. He is super consistent and a pleasure to ride.
Did you think you had a chance to catch the winner?
“If we had one more lap, yes.”
John Velazquez (rider of third-place finisher Trikari)
“Perfect trip. I was up with the leaders, and I got behind (Carl Spackler) at the three-eighths pole. I got excited, like I might have a chance.”
