Irad Ortiz Jr. (winning rider of Shisospicy)
“She broke fast out of there and she’s got speed, so I tried to relax and enjoy the time out there when she was on the lead. I bided my time, and turning for home she gave me a good turn of foot to the end. They were coming but she held on. (Trainer) Jose (D’Angelo) did a great job.”
Jose D’Angelo (winning trainer)
“She’s a gifted, very nice filly, a special talent. I was a little nervous about the surface because at Gulfstream (Park, winning a Feb. 5 allowance race on the lead) she ran on hard turf and now it was between muddy and soft. I told (jockey) Irad (Ortiz Jr.) to go with her and not wait too much to make her run. It worked out for her perfectly.”
John Velazquez (rider of runner-up Dreamaway)
“She ran a good race. She handled well. She put up a good fight.”
Dylan Davis (rider of third-place finisher Abientot)
“She ran great. First race back (since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf-G1). I asked (trainer) Mark (Casse) if I could come here and ride her and he said, ‘No doubt. I don’t want anyone else riding my filly here.’ I’ve been working her a bunch at Palm Meadows in Florida and want to stay with her. She’s a closer. This distance is just a touch short for her, but she ran really game and she ran hard. She kept out in front, so 6 (furlongs) is probably a better distance for her, but I was really happy with her efforts today.”
