Trainer Mark Casse reported Tuesday morning that Tracy Farmer’s La Cara “came back great” from her frontrunning victory in Monday’s Central Bank Ashland (G1).
With the victory, La Cara stamped herself as a major player for the $1.5 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) to be run at Churchill Downs on May 2.
“She will head over to Churchill in the next couple of days,” Casse said.
When La Cara arrives at Churchill, one of her barnmates will be Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Sandman, the top point earner on the Road to the $5 million Kentucky Derby (G1) Presented by Woodford Reserve on May 3.
Casse had prominent runners for the Oaks and Derby in the same year in 2017. That year, Salty finished fifth as the 9-1 fifth choice in the Oaks, and champion Classic Empire finished fourth in the Derby as the 6-1 third choice.
