Yes. But it’s been decades since that happened.
ICYMI: Due to severe weather and significant rainfall in Central Kentucky, Keeneland rescheduled the opening race days of its 15-day Spring Meet.
The race card originally scheduled for Friday, April 4 – which included the $750,000 Central Bank Ashland (G1) – took place Monday. The Saturday, April 5 race card – which features the $1.25 million Toyota Blue Grass (G1) – was rescheduled to today.
Sunday was opening day of the Spring Meet.
According to Keeneland Library, Keeneland hosted racing on Mondays and/or Tuesdays during:
- Fall Meet 1936 (the track’s inaugural season).
- Spring and Fall Meets 1937-1944 (including meets held at Churchill Downs in 1943 and 1944).
- Spring 1945 (races were held at Churchill in May); no racing at Keeneland in the fall of 1945.
After 1945, the schedule trended away from including Mondays toward a Tuesday through Saturday schedule during:
- Spring and Fall Meets 1946 -1990.
Seasons switched to a Wednesday through Sunday schedule with the 1991 Spring Meet.
