Mrs. Fitriani Hay’s favored Saturday Flirt split horses at the top of the stretch for clear sailing and hit the front well inside the sixteenth pole to win Wednesday’s featured $120,000 Four Star Purse for fillies and mares by a neck over Tales of The Heart (IRE). (Click here for a video of the race.)
Trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Saturday Flirt completed the 5½ furlongs over a firm turf course in 1:02.66. It was the third victory of the afternoon for Ward and Ortiz but the only one they won as a team.
Racing for the first time since finishing 10th in the Norfolk (G2) at Royal Ascot in England last June, Saturday Flirt won for the second time in three starts with both victories coming at Keeneland. Bred by Ward in Kentucky, she is a 3-year-old daughter of Mendelssohn out of the Broken Vow mare Dragic.
Saturday Flirt returned $7.48, $4.82 and $3.28. Tales of The Heart, ridden by Junior Alvarado, returned $4.50 and $3.14 and finished a neck in front of Big Trouble, who paid $2.74 to show under Jose Ortiz.
