Choisya (GB) Overcomes Objection to Win Keeneland’s Grade 1 Jenny Wiley in North American Debut

Gosger captures Stonestreet Lexington

Rabbah Bloodstock’s homebred Choisya (GB), using a ground-saving trip, got the jump on her rivals at the top of the stretch and then held off favored Excellent Truth (IRE) by a half-length to win the 37th running of the $650,000 Jenny Wiley (G1) for fillies and mares Saturday afternoon.

In the race before the Jenny Wiley, Gosger won the 43rd running of the $400,000 Stonestreet Lexington (G3) for 3-year-olds.

In the Jenny Wiley, Kehoe Beach set the pace with fractions of :22.98, :46.95 and 1:11.33 while being tracked by Be Your Best (IRE) with Choisya third along the rail.

As the field approached the top of the stretch, jockey Luis Saez sent Choisya through on the inside of Kehoe Beach and took over without relinquishing the lead.

Just before the sixteenth pole, Choisya came out slightly, forcing a rallying Excellent Truth to alter course. The incident prompted an objection that was disallowed by the stewards.

Trained by Simon Crisford for his first Keeneland stakes victory, Choisya completed the 1 1/16 miles over a turf course rated as good in 1:42.01.

Choisya is a 5-year-old daughter of Night of Thunder out of the Singspiel (IRE) mare Fragrancy. Winner of her first two starts of 2025 in Group 2 stakes in Dubai, Choisya improved her record to 20-8-5-0 and increased her earnings to $709,462. Saturday’s victory was worth $298,375.

Choisya rewarded her backers with payoffs of $15.66, $7.74 and $5.48. Excellent Truth, ridden by Flavien Prat, returned $5.10 and $3.64 and finished a half-length in front of Kehoe Beach, who paid $4.48 to show under Frankie Dettori.

It was another 1¼ lengths back to Sacred Wish with Poolside With Slim (IRE), Jabaara (IRE), No Show Sammy Jo and Be Your Best following in order.

Gosger captures Stonestreet Lexington

In the Stonestreet Lexington, Harvey A. Clarke Racing Stable’s homebred Gosger put away pacesetting Bracket Buster and favored Praetor at the top of the stretch and drew off for a 2-length victory.

The race was the final points race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, but none of the point earners has enough points accumulated to earn a spot in the Derby starting gate that is limited to the top 20 point earners and invitees.

Gosger, making his stakes debut, picked up 20 points with the victory. That total is well short of the cut line of 46.

Trained by Brendan Walsh and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Gosger completed the 1 1/16 miles over the fast main track in 1:44.15.

Longshot Bracket Buster led the field through fractions of :23.73, :47.62 and 1:12.27 with Praetor second and Hypnus and Gosger running third and fourth.

The pack tightened up on the far turn and at the top of the stretch, Hypnus began to retreat while Gosger was rallying three wide to first dispatch Praetor and then Bracket Buster.

Gosger is a Kentucky-bred son of Nyquist out of the Tapit mare Gloria S. The victory was the second in three starts for Gosger, who picked up $241,800 for the victory to increase his earnings to $292,200.

Gosger returned $10.60, $5.72 and $3.24. Bracket Buster, ridden by Manny Franco, returned $17.46 and $6.14 and finished 3½ lengths in front of Praetor, who paid $2.74 to show under Flavien Prat.

It was another half-length back to Hypnus with Bullard, Native Runner and Hard as Life following in order.
