Anna's Promise Works Hald-Mile for Kentucky Oaks

Bell Racing’s Anna’s Promise, runner-up in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) on March 29 in her most recent start, began fine-tuning her final preparations for the $1.5 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) by working a half-mile in :48.60 over a fast track Saturday morning,

With jockey Junior Alvarado aboard and working solo at 9:35 a.m., Anna’s Promise reeled off splits of :12.20, :24.20, :36.80, :48.60 and galloped out 5 furlongs in 1:01.60.

A $50,000 claim out of a maiden victory three starts back by trainer Carlos David, Anna’s Promise will be reunited with Alvarado for the May 2 Oaks.

“She was very good this morning, and I got to get to know her again,” said Alvarado, who was aboard for the maiden victory on Feb. 5 but then was sidelined for three weeks with a hairline fracture in his right shoulder blade.

“She did it easy and I let her finish down the lane and she had a good gallop out.”

“It was a good work and I was happy with her,” David said. “She will ship over to Churchill Downs on Thursday, gallop Friday and then work Saturday (April 26) with Junior up.”
